In just over a week marks the 100th birthday of one of the greatest movie. cinema, and motion picture studios of all time, Universal Pictures.
That’s right – Universal Pictures first opened it’s doors on March 8th, 1912 (formally known as Universal Film Manufacturing Company) by Carl Laemmle, a German-Jewish immigrant from Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Universal Pictures has been a worldwide dominator of the film, animation, television and music industry for over 50 decades. Movies such as The Phantom of the Opera (1925), Cape Fear (1962 and 1991), American Graffiti (1973), Jaws (1975), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Back to the Future I, II, and III (1985, 1989 and 1990), Kindergarten Cop (1990), Schindler’s List (1993), Gladiator (2000), Shaun of the Dead (2004), The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Knocked Up (2007), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), Bridesmaids (2011), and so much, much more!
Those are just a couple of movies that have made Universal Pictures one of the greatest movie franchises in the past 100 years. This blog post isn’t just going to be about plugging all of the movies from Universal Pictures, but what I will be doing is showing you some of my favourite Universal Pictures films, and TV shows from my 22 years of living on this earth.
I may change it up a bit, I just post links to the movie I like, and have seen, and just some other stuff that I really like about Universal Pictures. I’m trying to make this a small blog, so I don’t have to waste your time, seriously! I’m nice like that. However, in advance, sorry if I dabble on a little, I kinda do get worked up when it comes to movies and other stuff, so yeah… enjoy.
The thing with Universal Pictures is, I find myself to be somewhat of a fanboy, I adore Universal Pictures movies, right now I am looking at 21+25 of them, It’s a strange thing, I personally never thought I would fall for a movie studio, but when I do eventually make it I would be honoured to make a movie and have it produced and distributed by Universal Pictures.
Here contains a list of my (so far) Universal Pictures movies: Jaws (1975), 2 (1978), 3 (1983) and The Revenge (1987), Back to the Future (1985), 2 (1989) and 3 (1990), Mallrats (1995), The Big Lebowski (1998), Bowfinger (1999), The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Accepted (2006), Hot Fuzz (2007), Knocked Up (2007), Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008), Funny People (2009), Bruno (2009), Get Him To The Greek (2010), Bridesmaids (2011) and Paul (2011).
I guess you could kind of see the same theme going on there; Comedy! Yes, that’s right, I am a huge comedy fan, and it just happens that most of the best comedies came out of Universal Pictures, especially the ones by my favourite comedy Director, Writer, and Producer, Judd Apatow.
Not just Judd Apatow, but Universal Pictures is also home to such master movie makers like Steven Spielberg, and The Coen Brothers just to name a few, however, these few are some of my favourite film-makers. Universal Pictures holds a close part in my heart, I know you’re probably thinking right now “How the heck can someone like a movie studio so much?”, well it’s possible and I do! Universal Pictures is like a family, and a family I would have the honour of being apart of eventually. So one day I can say that I got a movie with the Universal family. Not just one movie, but some awesome movie that people are really going to like.
