Withthe 83rd Academy Awards being right around the corner, being tomorrow. I’m going to be doing a written review of the whole procceding, and i was also thinking of realeasing a podcast aswell.
But anyway, that’s tomorrow. I thought i would give my predictions on each award (Only the important ones.) for the selected categories.
Best Picture
The Social Network – Dana Brunetti, Ceán Chaffin, Michael De Luca, and Scott Rudin
or.
True Grit – Ethan Coen, Joel Coen, and Scott Rudin
Notes: I got a chance to see the original 1969 version of True Grit starring John Wayne as Ruebun J. Cogburn. It was pretty much the same as the recent Coen Brothers adaptation. But according to various friends (I’ve yet to see the recent film) the new one is even better, esecially with the awesome touch of the Coen Brothers and their fantastic film making.
The reason why i had to choose two was because i heard that The Social Network was a great movie too, i’ve yet to see it though but the DVD and Blu-Ray are going to be released march 1st here in Australia, so i’m definitely going to get myself a copy.
Best Director
Ethan Coen and Joel Coen – True Grit
or.
Tom Hooper – The King’s Speech
Notes: Now you can’t go past the Coen Brothers for best Director(s) for True Grit, that’s for sure! They’ve yet to make a bad movie, heck, i even enjoyed Burn After Reading wasn’t that bad of a movie, despite what others may say!
This Category was definitely hard, due to their being great directors. Besides the Coen Brothers the other director i thought should win is Tim Hooper for The Kings Speech. It was a lovely movie and sure some people told me that they thought it was just one long TV Series, but i liked the movie… Stuttering included!
Best Actor
Jeff Bridges – True Grit as Rooster Cogburn
or.
Jesse Eisenberg – The Social Network as Mark Zuckerberg
or.
Colin Firth – The King’s Speech as Prince Albert / King George VI
Notes:The Best Actor Award was a tough one to choose. Not only did i have to tone it down to only three individuals but it was really hard. Jeff Bridges, Coling Firth and Jesse Eisenburg are all fantastic actors in their own right!
Jeff Bridges was fantastic as Rooser Cogburn. Colin Firth was fantastic as King George the Sixth. And Jesse Eisenburg was fantastic as the Facebook Billionaire Mark Zuckerberg.
Best Actress
Natalie Portman – Black Swan as Nina Sayers
Notes: It’s very hard for a man to go and say to people “Oh yeah, a movie about ballet was really good! You should watch it” But suprisingly it was. Natalie Portman did a fantastic job in this movie as Nina Sayers, she’s the only women in this category that deserves the award. Plain and simple!
Best Original Screenplay
The Kids Are All Right – Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg
or.
The King’s Speech – David Seidler
Notes: I’ve got to admit, i love myself a good screenplay! After finding out that, The Kids Are Alright was being nominated for Best Original Screenplay. I was shocked, but not in a bad way. It looked like such a great movie.
I would also be shocked in The Kings Speech doesn’t win this.
Best Adapted Screenplay
The Social Network – Aaron Sorkin based on the book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich
Toy Story 3 – Michael Arndt, John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich; characters based on Toy Story and Toy Story 2
True Grit – Joel & Ethan Coen based on the novel by Charles Portis
Notes: The Best Adopted Screenplay, It’s really down to The Social Network and True Grit! Both fantastic Movies.
Final Notes: Make sure you watch the Oscars tomorrow live on Channel Nine from 12pm.
