WWE ’13 is a professional wrestling video game developed by Yuke’s and published by THQ for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360. It is the second game in the WWE series and the fifteenth overall in the combined series. It is the sequel to WWE ’12, and was released on October 30, 2012 in North America and was released on November 2, 2012 in United Kingdom.
The game focuses on the Attitude Era of WWE, replacing its Road to WrestleMania Mode with an Attitude Era Mode where the player plays through the Attitude Era in 6 different storylines. Starting with the Rise of DX, the player plays through scenarios like Austin 3:16, The Brothers of Destruction, The Great One, Mankind and Wrestlemania XV. A bonus scenario called “Off Script” is available after completing all the previous 6 scenarios.
With that said; I do believe the game took a big step backwards. Not that I didn’t actually enjoy the game, but I felt like it wasn’t as great as WWE ’12 in terms of content. Don’t get me wrong. I am a huge wrestling fan, and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole Attitude Era mode – reliving the whole Attitude Era was fun, also, getting the chance to relive some of the greatest moments was also great.
With the copy I got, I didn’t buy the Collectors Edition of the game. No special Mike Tyson or Stone Cold Steve Austin code. However, you can unlock the both of them in-game, anyway. I have already unlocked Steve Austin, and he is great as always. With that said; I have already unlocked most of the stuff that is available within the game. Most of the titles, superstars, attitude era wrestlers, bonus matches, videos, and other hidden features. There are still a couple of things that I do need to unlock – but I just need to search them out, but I really do like that before each match it does tell you what needs to be done to unlock certain things… besides when it says you have to do the Attitude Era Moment.
WWE ’13’s Creative Suite is much better than the previous game’ one. This time around the Create-A-Superstar, Create-A-Move-set, Create-A-Championship, Create-An-Arena and a couple of other modes are there, and they are much better than the previous game, and also, it is pretty great to see that most of them have been revamped with new special effects, music, graphics, and overall design. A much better improvement.
With the addition of the Attitude Era feature, you’ve also got the classic Exhibition area where you’ve got all the regular Single, Tag Team, Triple Thread, Fatal Four-Way, King of the Ring, Battle Royal, Royal Rumble, and various other matches. But what is great is that THQ had brought back the Special Guest Referee match into the game that has been missing for a couple of years. I haven’t had the chance to give it a try yet, to be honest, but I will – but if it’s anything like the previous games then it will just be the same – I always did have fun with that mode. Looks fun.
Also, there is a new mode called “WWE Universe.” I do believe that this mode was there in WWE ’12. So it is pretty much the same. You can do weekly shows on either Raw, SmackDown, or Superstars – and you can even make your own shows, banners, logo, and spit the rosters – and have your own whole show. I did play a lot of this mode and I enjoyed it a lot. It was pretty fun, and title defenses are fun. Especially when the in-game data counts your title reign, and how many weeks you have held the title. I thought that was pretty cool… and a really nice addition.
Over all, it was a fun game and I am still playing it at this moment – well not right at the instant moment I am writing this piece, but yeah. However, the game is fun and I am a huge wrestling fan, so I really did enjoy this game. And getting the chance to make dream matches that we will never get to see was fun, too. Really liked this game, and I will definitely be playing online and multiplayer too. Was fun.
[easyreview title=”WWE ’13” cat1title=”Casting Choice:” cat1detail=”Well I wouldn’t really call this a casting choice, as most of the Roster in this game is from the actually WWE roster, but some of the people in this game have already left the company, changed gimmicks, and some have changed names. But you can’t really stop that from happening.” cat1rating=”3.5″ cat2title=”The Open World:” cat2detail=”The WWE world is a big thing, and well, it’s really hard to get all of it in the one game, especially when this game is mostly based around the WWE Attitude Era, and not really the current era of the WWE.” cat2rating=”3.5″ cat3title=”The Actual Gameplay:” cat3detail=”The gameplay is fine. Besides some minor bugs and things that I found really annoying – the game is fine, and plays well, just like the last game – some of the controls have changed though.” cat3rating=”4.0″ summary=”As a WWE fan it was hard for me to hate this game. I loved the Attitude Era and it was a huge thing for the WWF (at the time) and also the whole wrestling fans. This game was fun and the Attitude Era mode was brilliant.”]
