My “reviews” consist more of a recap of what happened in the movie.
Review and recap:
Will wastes his money he got from his father, Roger (Bryan Cranston) to buy a new TV (the biggest one currently on sale).
Will and Jillian live with their three other friends, Charlie, Luke, and Ethan. Brian (John Cho) tells Will that they don’t have a job for him anymore as they are downsizing.
Will gets a new job in a hotel. Jay Pharaoh plays Skizzy D, a pimp. Marc Maron is the hotel manager. He fires Will after the cops bust the prostitute ring.
Will asks Roger for some money, Roger tells him he lost his job too. Will and is friends go to a strip bar. The stripper tells Will that she can get him a job in a porn place as a video producer. Will tells Jillian he is going to donate sperm to make money. I think it was a joke. Roger goes for an interview to get a new job. Fernando tells him to look younger, maybe get rid of the beard.
Charlie has his students making food for him as their class presentations. Charlie gets offered more work to be a sports coach. He takes it because its an extra $100 a week.
Will has an interview with Tanya. Will meets Lawrence Wilheimer. Will bombs the interview after he decides to reply to a text from Jillian, instead of pitching himself to Lawrence. Will sells his TV
Tanya calls Will and tells him that he has a job. Tanya then tells Charlie that Will gets the job if he passes a drug test. Will visits his father and asks for Roger to pee in a bottle so he can pass the drug test. Tanya joins Will in the bathroom as he does the pee test. He uses a machine to pee into the cup. Probably his fathers. Julian bought Will a tie.
Will at his job, is watching some guy talk behind a green screen. Tanya tries her best to crack onto Will. aLawrence asks Will to put him in touch with Skizzy D. Charlie freaks out in front of the basketball students as they really suck at basketball. Luke has to drink Deer cum to get his own desk at work. Luke drinks it and spews over three of his co-workers.
Ethan and Charlie show Luke and Will a new bong Charlie’s students made at school. Will puts on a presentation for the stakeholders and executives of the company. Fernando and Tanya like it. Catherine Dunn says this is an executive firm not MTV. She says that Will will follow the guidebook. She also says that Will has to come to work in proper suit attire. And she is not a fan of his reply-all emails. They were inappropriate, offensive and not funny. She also doesn’t like his Facebook page. She says Will is an employee of the company. He needs to up his standards and produce a good image.
Will goes to the starbucks like place and sees Roger. Roger tells him to sitdown and he invites Cammy over. Cammy asks Will about his new job. We get a bunch of cuts of everyone working at their jobs besides Ethan. Will and Roger have lunch together. Will and Roger decided to get hammered too. Later that night: Will records Roger in one of his companies interviews to try and get him a job. Will brings Catherine a coffee. Catherine tells Will that there is going to be changed around here.
Tanya hooks Will up with some drugs so he can stay up later to get his work done. Will takes some speed so he can get the work done. He makes the presentation all trippy. Charlie and Ethan tells Will that his Skizzy video has gone viral. Lon Zimmet leaves a message for Will to get in contact with him. Will meets Lon (Seth Morris). Lon tells him that he wants Will to work for him as party of the Internet and Viral Marketing department.
Will gets home and Jillian tells him she got fired. Jillian moves in with Will. Roger gets to the and tries to have a meeting with James, but the security tell him to leave the building. Roger says he isn’t going anywhere until the decision maker. Roger gets in elevator and pitches himself to James. Roger tells Will that he got an interview with James and his friends that he got an interview.
Back at the house: Jillian decides to get stoned. Bat at work: Catherine asks to see Will. Catherine tells Will he is now Vice President of Corporate Communications with a salary of 52k. He’ll be working with three people. Ethan and Jillian are the only two not working now.
Jillian joins Will at his Christmas party. She meets Katherine. Will tells Katherine he quits. She threatens him by saying he will never have another job again.
We see how everyone is doing with their lives now. Comfortable in their own lives and jobs. Will says he doesn’t want to work for Sweet but he does.
Notes:
This movie was fine. I don’t think it’s the worst comedy movie, that’s for sure. I did have a couple of problems with the characters though. Especially Alison Brie’s character. She was pretty bad, and the forced sexual nature of her character was tiresome.
I just don’t take Miles Teller serious as a leading actor. Sure, he was good in Whiplash, but other than that, his other movies have been pretty bad.
Jay Pharaoh was the best part of the movie. Skizzy D was dope. Also the cameo from Marc Maron was good too. His character was dodgy, and a true businessman.
Bryan Cranston and his relationship with the Barista, Cammy, was great. I’m glad we got to spend a lot of time when those two. Even a special moment at the end when he gets the job.
